10 Beers You Need To Know About

Today I visited Joel Durand owner of Blackrock Cellar, an expert in beer and fine wines. Below is a list of 10 beers hand picked by Joel, which you can find in shops near you with the Pointy app:

1. Siren Craft Brew Caribbean Chocolate Cake Stout

CarribeanChocolateCake

Hand roasted cacao nibs from the USA gives a taste of tamarind and soft lemon.  An aroma of chocolate and liquorice tones.  This stout is smooth and silky with a little background fizz.  The taste is very full so one may be enough!

2. Deus Brut des Flandres Beer

DeusBrut

Looking at this bottle who would of thought this is a beer?  Clear golden yellow with little to no head.  Amazing in the nose.  Sweet flavour.  Definitely one to try for something a little different.

3. Grand Cru Rodenbach Beer

GrandCru

Belgium beer with red wine colour and aroma. Smooth and fruity tones.  Very nice beer if not a little unusual.

4. Schneider Weisse Tap 6 Unser Beer

UnserAventinus

Pours dark plum with a lasting white head.  Aromas of plums or prunes, banana and raisins.  Relatively sweet.  This is a delicious beer!

5. Independent Brewing Company Stout

IndependentStout

A smooth milk stout, full bodied with hints of chocolate, coffee and vanilla.  Brewed in Galway.  This is one of my favourites.

6. Odell Brewing Co IPA

An American style IPA that pours golden orange.  What a great IPA, so easy to drink, you will definitely want more than one.

7. Siren Craft Brew Calypso

Calypso

Hazy yellow colour with a quickly disappearing head.  A very distinctive aroma that you can smell a mile away.  This hoppy beer is a real treat.

8. Left Hand Brewing Co Milk Stout Nitro

Milk Stout

This one is Joel’s favourite on the list and uses malolactic fermentation as a second fermentation stage.  This produces a creaminess that will change your perception on what a stout can be.  Definitely one to try!

9. Crafty Dan 13 Guns IPA

13guns

According to Joel cans are the future for craft beers because they keep the sunlight out and the hops fresh.  Brown bottles are better than green, but a can is best.  Not to mention the fact they are easy to recycle and take up less space.

10. Galway Bay Brewery & Teeling Whiskey Two Hundred Fathoms Stout

TwoHundredFathoms

Finally this is one from the amazing Galway Bay Brewery.  This beer is aged in Teeling Whisky barrels with a blacker than black colour and an aroma of plums, chocolate and red fruits.  This is one to try, but be careful at 10% ABV this is not one for a session.

You can WIN the beers in this list!
