Wondering what wine will work best with your Christmas turkey? Or looking for the perfect wine to give as gift? Well look no further! We visited Clontarf Wine owners Ronnie and Helena Caraher this week. They both have the WSET Diploma in wine and gave us some excellent festive wine recommendations.
1. Charbonniere Chateauneuf du Pape
One of my favourites for Christmas dinner. You need something robust to stand up to the various flavours of the traditional Christmas dinner, and this never lets me down.
2. Tour de Capet Saint-Emilion Grand Cru
The perfect gift for friends or family this Christmas.
3. Alpha Zeta Amarone
A good Amarone at less than €45 is hard to find, and this is only €35. Another great gift.
4. Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc
A classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc that all your guests will love.
5. La Jara Prosecco Frizzante
The lighter style of prosecco is perfect when a few people are having a glass each. Frizzantes don’t hold their sparkle over the course of an evening.
6. Dominio de la Vega Expression Reserva Cava
This is a wonderful Cava that tastes like Christmas morning.
7. Hattingley Valley Classic Cuvée
An excellent English sparkler instead of Champagne.
8. Domaine Girault Sancerre
The perfect aperitif, and great with the smoked salmon on Christmas morning.
9. Mouton Chablis Grand Cru Monopole
Nothing else to say really.
10. Nieport Port Wine
Don’t forget the Port! A 10-year-old Tawny, such as that from Niepoort will do the job nicely, and will still be ok to drink a few weeks after opening.
