Four years ago, Guy and Cathy Lenora decided to open the first children’s store in the town of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. With nine grandchildren, opening a store selling educational toys seemed like a natural fit for them. Today Kidz Korner is the largest distributor of the Melissa and Doug line of toys and art supplies in the northeast corner of Oklahoma. According to co-owner Guy, their vision is to be the preferred Toy Store in the area, specializing in fair prices, a great selection and personal service the “big box” stores just can’t provide.
Guy says of his favourite things about his job as a store owner is that he gets to be his own boss “Being retired, I certainly didn’t want to work for the other guy. I think we all dream of being in business for ourselves.” The store which is located in the downtown area has quickly become an integral part of the Bartlesville community “We live in a small community and being part of that is extremely important to us. We are proud to be helping to keep that historic area of our town alive and well.”
Driving Customers To The Store
Despite being a relatively young business, Kidz Korner has managed to build up a great reputation as a top quality toy store. Guy says their emphasis on customer service has played a huge part in this “I believe that customer service has become a bit of an overused expression. However, it’s one that myself and the rest of the staff at Kidz Korner have taken the challenge to revive and make relevant again. We won’t settle for customer service – we demand customer loyalty and attain that by doing whatever is within our power to make our friends have a special visit to our store”.
Guy says one of his most difficult tasks as a store owner is finding ways to make the experience of being a Kidz Korner customer as easy and fun as possible. With more and more customers turning to e-commerce giants like Amazon to purchase toys, he needed to find a simple way to make his unique product range more visible online. That’s where Pointy came in “We have tried several e-commerce tools, but with no success. Pointy sounded easy and effective way to display our products online. As soon as we plugged in the device and started scanning, our products automatically appeared online. I don’t know how Pointy does it, but they seem to find every product we have and put the best pictures of them on our site. I love it!”
Converting Online Searches Into In-Store Sales
At Kidz Korner, in-store experience is hugely important. In fact, Guy believes it’s what sets their store apart from the online giants and big box retailers “It may seem easier to shop online but you often end up missing out on so many of the perks that come with buying locally. An online retailer isn’t going to bag and wrap every purchase, they’re not going to listen to their customer’s personal stories and they’re going going to provide little extras like a helium balloon for every kids who visits the store”.
According to Guy, Pointy has allowed Kids Korner to leverage their online presence in a way that gets more people into their physical store “Thanks to Pointy, we are able to give our customers an idea of the products we stock before the make a trip to the store. I’ve used tools in the past that took time EVERY day to update. Not so with Pointy – this little tool does it all and I can forget about it. It’s such an assuring feeling to know that Pointy has our back!”
Guy says he’s already recommended Pointy to several other merchants in his town “I tell them how easy it is to use and how I feel it drives business from the small towns around ours to our brick and mortar store. Customers search for a product we stock and find us. What an awesome idea and tool.”
