Last week I caught up with Amy in Mitchell and Son Wine Merchants. With a wine and spirit education diploma, she is an expert in her field. Here’s Amy’s top summer wine picks which can all be found on the Pointy app:
1. Chateau Dereszla Tokaji Dry – Hungary
Although the Tokaji region is best known for its sweet wines, its dry wines are well worth seeking out. The texture is rich and round offering orange blossom, honey and beeswax aromas and flavours.
2. Lustau La Ina Fino Jerez Sherry – Spain
Dry and streaked with tangy apple and lemon, this sherry makes for an excellent aperitif or accompaniment to salted nuts, olives, cheeses and other savoury foods.
3. Abadal Picapoll Pla de Bages – Spain
A zesty and citric wine with flavours similar to a green apple or gooseberry.
4. Palazzo Maffei Soave – Italy
A dry and fruity wine full of apple and pear flavours. The finish is dry and crisp.
5. Caves de L’Angevine Rose d’Anjou – France
A fresh and fruity rose wine with alluring scents of raspberry and blackberry. The perfect wine to drink while relaxing in the summer sunshine.
6. Viña Herminia Garnacha Rosé – Spain
Bright pink in colour, this rose is intense and refreshing with aromas of strawberry and floral tones.
7. Bortolomiol Prosecco Miol – Italy
A highly drinkable fizz with a rich palette of shades of fruit and crisp acidity. An excellent companion to both meat and fish based savoury snacks.
8. Rene Mure Signature Riesling – France
A typical Riesling with lemony notes of citrus fruits on the palette. Light yellow and brilliant, the taste of wine is soft and well-structured.
9. Villemarin Picpoul De Pinet – France
Its zesty freshness makes this the perfect summer wine. A great companion to fresh shellfish and oysters.
10. Barão De Vilar Pink Port – Portugal
With fresh and fruity flavours, this unusual pink port taste delicious when served chilled or in a homemade cocktail.
